Academic degrees/titles: Habilitation (Mec. Eng.), PhD (Mec. Eng.), MSc (Thermal Eng.), first degree (Mec. Eng.).

He was Head of the R&D units: Centre for Renewable Energy Research (CIENER-INEGI, 2015-20) and New Energy Technologies Unit (IDMEC, 2003-14). Participated in 20 European research and development projects (including 4 as project overall coordinator) related to the development of new and sustainable energy systems, especially solar thermal systems (heating, cooling and CHP systems), managing a total budget in excess of 11 million euros. Considered as one of the 2% most influential researchers in the area of energy in the last 25 years (Stanford University ranking, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024).

Associate Editor of Int Journal of Low Carbon Technologies (Oxford University Press), and Member of the Editorial Board of Int Journal of Ambient Energy (Taylor & Francis), Journal of Building Engineering (Elsevier), Energies (MDPI), Future Cities and Environment (Ubiquity Press) and Frontiers in Built Environment (Frontiers, EPFL). Member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council Peer Review College (UK).

He was Secretary-General, and is a Member of the Executive Committee, of the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies. He was co-responsible for the conference series on Sustainable Energy Technologies, with more than 20 editions held in Europe, Asia and America.
