Apresentação Pessoal

José Costa, EUR ING, is a Ph.D. candidate in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the University of Porto, where he investigates advanced manufacturing processes and the strategic integration of metal additive manufacturing (AM) technologies. His doctoral research explores AM's disruptive potential and industrial applicability for metallic materials, focusing on Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) and Material Extrusion (MEX). His work includes developing Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) strategies, process parameterization, and performance optimization.

He holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and a postgraduate qualification in Services Management from the Faculty of Economics (FEP), combining technical depth with organizational and strategic insight.

His academic research is reinforced through active participation in national and European R&D initiatives, including CARAVELA, VIRIATO, and Hi-Rev, contributing to the development of AM feedstocks, novel processing methodologies, and the implementation of advanced AM platforms, including LPBF, MEX (Fused Filament Fabrication - FFF and Fused Granular Fabrication - FGF).

José has authored and co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in AM process development, materials characterization, topology optimization, and sustainability. He serves as an Invited Assistant Professor at FEUP, where he teaches and supervises undergraduate and master's students in additive manufacturing, materials science, and manufacturing design, promoting close collaboration between academia and industry. He is also an evaluator for the Portuguese National Innovation Agency (ANI) and a reviewer for indexed scientific journals in the Scopus database.

With over a decade of industrial experience, including leadership roles in innovation and advanced manufacturing at Yazaki Europe, he consistently bridges academic research with industrial application. A strong commitment to sustainable innovation, technology transfer, and the strategic adoption of metal AM across industrial value chains guides his work.
