Current position: Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP); Member of the Civil Engineering Department Council; Integrated Member of the R&D unit CONSTRUCT- Institute of R&D in Structures and Construction.
Education: Degree in Civil Engineering from FEUP (2001); Master in Civil Engineering Structures from FEUP (2004); PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto (2010).
Main research interests/skills: Design and implementation of structural monitoring systems incorporating recent technological developments; development of data processing algorithms for automated processing of monitoring data, with special focus on identification of modal properties (automated operational modal analysis); testing, monitoring and modelling of onshore and floating wind turbines.
Main activities: Principal Investigator at FEUP of 3 research projects and (co-)supervisor of 9 PhD thesis (4 concluded) about monitoring and modelling of wind turbines; monitoring of bridges, dams and movable scaffolding systems for bridge construction; design of modular bridges and structural optimization of bridges. Author of more than 100 publication in international journal and conferences, with more than 288 citations (h-index 25). Participation in several consultancy works including the testing and monitoring of bridges, dams, wind turbines, chimneys and stadia in Portugal, France, United Kingdom and USA.
Other relevant information: Representative of the University do Porto at the European Academy of Wind Energy (www.eawe.eu), chair of a task group at the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (www.iabse.org) about monitoring during construction. Interest in the development of pedagogical material using 3D printing and electronic platforms and in the use of drones in Civil Engineering applications.
