Courses

Bachelor in Applied Mathematics

InformationCourse/CS accredited by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES).

The main goal of the undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics is to enable students to play the transformative role of Mathematics in today's society. From a solid mathematical background, they will be able to model, simulate and/or support arguments or decisions in solving problems in science, industry or services.

The entry of these graduates into the job market will respond to the growing interest of several employers in training in Applied Mathematics, motivated by the complexity of current challenges and the need for innovation.

Professional Abilities

During their academic training, students will acquire strong skills in Analysis, Linear Algebra and Analytical Geometry, Differential Equations, Numerical Analysis, Number Theory, Discrete Mathematics, Probability, Statistics and Optimization, reinforced by knowledge in Computing and Physics, for resourcefulness in modeling, programming and databases. Critical thinking, communication skills and group work will also be developed, essential for future leaders and actors in the country's economic and social development.

Employment Prospects

Applied Mathematics is transversal to all scientific, economic and technological areas, so graduates of this course will be able to integrate different job markets, such as financial consultancy and actuarial services companies, industry, public institutions and research institutes.

Students will also be able to pursue studies for an MSc in the area (Mathematical Engineering, Computational Statistics and Data Analysis, or Mathematics) or in similar areas.
