The
Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP) is an organisational unit of U. Porto with independent staff and statutes, scientific, pedagogical, administrative, and financial autonomy, according to the statutes of U. Porto and FCUP, and the law.
FCUP is located at
UPorto's Pole 3 - Campo Alegre Campus, which includes the buildings of the Central Services (FC5), the Departments of Biology (FC4), Computer Science (FC6), Physics and Astronomy (FC3), Geosciences, Environment and Spatial Planning (FC3), Mathematics (FC1), Chemistry and Biochemistry (FC2), and the Library (FC1).
It also integrates the following buildings: the Agrarian Sciences of Vairão (Vairão), the Geophysical Institute of the University of Porto (Serra do Pilar, V. N. de Gaia) and the Professor Manuel de Barros Astronomical Observatory (Monte da Virgem, V. N. de Gaia).
This is one of U.Porto's oldest and largest organisational units, with a
highly diversified training offer in Exact, Natural and Computer Sciences, in all the cycles of studies (Bachelor's, Master's and PhD), with interdisciplinary synergies between the different existing scientific areas, a culture of
Academic Excellence in Science, Research, Technology and Innovation, and
cultural and social responsibility initiatives, in an open and inclusive environment, that aims to promote
innovative and sustainable societal impact at regional, national and international level.
It is composed by:
- a team of excellent professors and researchers leading and teaching the cycles of studies and conducting scientific research that meets the highest national and international standards of excellence in 15 of FCUP's Partner Research Units,
- a team of Technical Collaborators who keep FCUP running at the highest levels of responsibility, availability, motivation, and efficiency, and
- students who embrace all the challenges of academic life at a Faculty that has a dynamic, differentiated, multi- and transdisciplinary scientific research culture, and a culture of technology, innovation, and social connection.
