Master in Art and Design for the Public Space

The study programme grants the Master of Art & Design for the Public Space and is aimed at students trained in varied Art, Design and/or Architecture courses, at this or other Faculties. The course offers alternatives for further education for within a scope of research that aims to intervene in the public space in a social, political, urban or virtual approach. http://madep.wordpress.com

Courses Units

Project

PADEP01 - ECTS

It is intended to encourage continued reflection and experimentation, varied in nature according to the particular objectives of each student, led to experimentation and implementation of interventions in the public space understood in its broadest operability, since for example punctual interventions of a temporary nature, the study of the impact of social and urban art in the public space, all the way through the understanding of of electronic informational space as an arena of intervention on a social space. The course involves the development of a project-oriented work, consistently matured in conjunction with other subject matters in the course, looking on the one hand, to encourage the student's autonomy, and on the other, inciting moments of collective and collaborative research. The results of the subject matter will therefore be varied in nature, consisting both in moments of small-scale experiments, as well as in real or virtual interventions, in any case leading preferably to conduct a public display at the end.


 

Art, Communication and Visual Culture

ACCV01 - ECTS

The course aims to weave crosses between the operability fields of art and design, communication and visual culture, anchored in the study of contemporary critical thought from the end of the century. XX and taking into account the mutual contamination between those fields. Supported the idea that there is no territory of visuality out of the cultural and political, the course is intended as an instigator of an interdisciplinary research in understanding the contemporary culture of multifaceted and dynamic way.

DLL01 - ECTS

- To optimize design skills in information gathering and analysis of content;

- to form images and concepts appropriate objectives and will carry out different exercises and projects;

- contributing to the development of a methodology for the project;

-  promote reflection and critical thinking;

- promoting attitudes of active participation and foster cooperation among students and between them and the different courses.

Research Methods

MIADEP01 - ECTS 1. To provide a basic understanding of the scientific procedure and the fundamental dimensions of the research process in Fine Arts and Art Studies;
2. To familiarize students with fundamental concepts, central problems, theories and practices inherent in the research process and the logic of empirical research;
3. To enable students to develop research practices based on the identification of an idea and formulation of a problem, on rational and logically elaborated argumentation, on research and organization of information and on structured, clear and consistent written and oral communication of objectives, methods, results and sources used;
4. To promote the development of an ethical and critical awareness of research activities and the production of scientific knowledge about the arts.
5. To teach students how to write academic texts.

Drawing and Project

DP01 - ECTS

To optimize designing skills at different stages of a practical problem (the project work);

Contributing to the development of a methodology for the project;

Helping to create adequate concepts and images that support the development and the execution of the project work;

Promote reflection and critical thinking;

Promoting attitudes of active participation and foster cooperation among students and between them and the different courses.

Research and design methodologies

MIPADEP01 - ECTS The research practice that leads to the project includes several stages, each one with specific timelines and goals. It is intended to prepare students for research work taking into account the following topics: Identify and formulate the research problem (research theme); Design a research project from the theme that was formulated; Demonstrate the relevance of the research for the production of knowledge in Art, specifically in Sculpture and Design for the Public Space and its applicability in other complementary disciplines; Help to form adequate concepts that support the development of research work and its articulation with the project; To develop research capacity: identify different sources and techniques for data/knowledge compilation; Promote critical thinking not only from interpretation and text readings but also from collective discussions and presentations.

Dissertation /Project /Internship

DPEADEP01 - ECTS

To acquire deeper knowledge and skills in the areas of study that make the objectives of the Course.

To develo themes and discuss issues related to one or the other area of specialization that might contribute to field.

To frame the scientific and professional concerns of each student within current scientific research as well as current professional practices.
