Objectives
The research practice that leads to the project includes several stages, each one with specific timelines and goals. It is intended to prepare students for research work taking into account the following topics: Identify and formulate the research problem (research theme); Design a research project from the theme that was formulated; Demonstrate the relevance of the research for the production of knowledge in Art, specifically in Sculpture and Design for the Public Space and its applicability in other complementary disciplines; Help to form adequate concepts that support the development of research work and its articulation with the project; To develop research capacity: identify different sources and techniques for data/knowledge compilation; Promote critical thinking not only from interpretation and text readings but also from collective discussions and presentations.Learning outcomes and competences
The described methods should aim to open the field of possibilities to investigate by analyzing different models of research. Moreover, it is also intended to strengthen the communication routines, written, oral and project-oriented. Thus, there is an encouragement of a regular writing and project-oriented work from classroom collective exercises that later will be developed individually and the results shown in the following class. These exercises also encourage information collection processes and critical analysis of the information obtained and presentation and collective discussion of results.
Thus, the exercises represent different stages of a research process and commit the student to progressively clarify the topic to investigate, either through a further deepen research in his work field, either through the improvement of the contents scheme in order to meet their concerns/ research question(s). These exercises, although individual, contain items that will be worked in a collective context, so each student will confront their results with those of other colleagues having the possibility to evolve in their final results.

Program
The program of this unit contains several stages of work that will lead to the creation of a Research Proposal and a 1ºDraft Thesis: Motivation and framework of the research; Background and formulation of a research question; Content development scheme; Critical analysis of theoretical and practical references (case-studies analysis); Definition and analysis of the project(s) to be carried out and its articulation with the theoretical component; Feasibility, planning and scheduling; Expected results; Basic rules and guidelines for the production of scientific/scholarly work; Research Proposal Development (Final Document); Preparation of the dissertation (1ºDraft). The program articulates 3 key areas: a critical review to knowledge (relevant theoretical and artistic); preparing the writing component and the project development.Mandatory literature
