David Ordóñez Castañón has a degree in Architecture (University of Valladolid, 2015) and a Master's degree in Conservation and Management of the Built Heritage (University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU, 2016). He holds an International PhD with Extraordinary Award (2022) from the universities of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Cantabria (UC) and Politécnica de Catalunya/Barcelona Tech (UPC). His PhD thesis focuses on Fernando Távora's design principles for the renovation of traditional architecture. At the UPV/EHU he was a member of the ESMAARQ Research Group (2018-2022) and was assistant lecturer in the Architecture degree and in the Master in Conservation and Management of Built Heritage. He is also part of the teaching staff of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master "Architectural and Urban Contemporary Heritage - ARURCOHE" (2023-2028). He is currently (2022-2023) developing post-doctoral research at the FAUP, within the framework of the exploratory project "Atlas of Architectural Heritage Design: contributions from the School of Porto" (H-Atlas.Porto), funded by the FCT. Since 2019 he is member of the Centre for Studies in Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Porto (CEAU-FAUP), integrating the Research Group in "Architecture, City and Territory Heritage" (PACT) and the UNESCO Chair in "Heritage, Cities and Landscapes. Sustainable Management, Conservation, Planning and Design". He is deeply committed to raising awareness of heritage conservation in the wider community through active participation in civic associations, being a founding member and current president of the Vindonnus Society.
