Abstract (EN):
Construction workers are exposed to a set of risks due the specific characteristics of this industry. The accidents costs and their impact are dependent from the work conditions and the characteristics of the accidents. For companies that find themselves in economic difficulty, the occurrence of an work accident of significant magnitude and severity can increase the likelihood of insolvency, leading to its closure. By this, it was intended to study the problem with collected data of the direct and indirect costs, in the period between 2002 and 2005, related with a sample of 115 non-fatal work accidents in a sector company with an annual average of 426 workers. In this study were applied the Total Cost of Accidents at Work method (CTSL). The average cost of an accident at work was calculated for the period between 2002 and 2011.
