This project seeks to found the relationships between the worsening of some pathologies and the indoor and outdoor climatic contexts. There are several evidences that during severe climatological circumstances, some vulnerable people saw an enormous increase of their health risk. Either because they are too aged, very young or because they are particularly fragile due to some organic malfunction, they should be the focus of special attention during these critical periods. The ability and accuracy of extreme weather events forecast associated to the implementation of several prevention and mitigation measures may help to decrease the morbidity and mortality and at the same time contribute to avoid the usual chaos generated during those episodes at the hospital emergency rooms. So, we pretend conclude with scientific support to implement at Oporto the World Health Organization Resolution (Bratislava, 2004) i) Identification of health risk factor analysis due to extreme weather conditions (indoor/outdoor thermal comfort context, way of life, auto medication, etc.); ii) Definition of the best health risk monitoring systems during the extreme weather episodes; iii) Definition of the communities in morbidity and mortality risk during extreme weather episodes; iv) Amelioration of National Health Plans to mitigate the health risk during extreme weather episodes. |
