Personal Presentation

Maria Eugénia Matos Fernandes completed a Master Degree in Modern History (1987) after her graduation in History (1980) and postgraduate studies in Documental Sciences (1987) at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto.

She taught History and Social Sciences in secondary school for 6 years (1980-1986) and worked as an archivist at the Porto District Archive for 12 years. She was consultant in the area of Information Science at the University of Porto between 1996 and 1998 and, at this year, was transferred to this University in order to create and install its Central Archive, oficially born in august 2001.

From january 2008 until march 2015 she coordinated the Information Management Unit of Digital University Department of U.Porto.
She was the information manager of the information system of Reitoria (SIGARRA) between may, 1st 2013 and march, 1st 2015.
 
Since 2016 she is a member of "Projeto TAIL - Gestão de dados de investigação: da produção ao depósito e à partilha" (https://www.inesctec.pt/pt/projetos/tail) and of the staff of RDM@UPorto (https://rdm.up.pt/). The development of this work culminated in the production of an Open Science Policy for the University of Porto in force since 2024.

Her curriculum includes publications both in Modern and Contemporary History and in Information Science. They are available at the Information System of U.Porto University and its Open Repository. 

Her professional interests are focused in Information Science and include digital repositories, information retrieval and digital preservation.
