The animal houses of ICBAS are services of common use, responsible for the maintenance and welfare of the animals housed in them, and provide support for teaching and scientific research, under the terms of the applicable legislation.
The kennel of the ICBAS-UP provides direct support to the activities:
- Of a pedagogical nature to various curricular units of the Integrated Master's Degree in Veterinary Medicine among others;
- Of a scientific nature, such as nutrition and feeding studies and animal welfare;
- Of social action and community development, namely, volunteering and animal assistance.
ICBAS KENNEL VOLUNTEERING PROGRAM
- “Volunteering at the Kennel” will take place in the facilities and public surroundings of the ICBAS-UP kennel between the beginning of September and the end of August of the following year.
- “Volunteering at the Kennel” comprises the following activities: - Walks on a leash of 1 or 2 dogs in the vicinity of ICBAS, lasting 30 to 40 minutes. - Socialization with the animals in the Kennel facilities.
- Registration is open to the entire academic community of UP (students, teaching and non-teaching staff).
- Volunteering will take place from Monday to Sunday (including public and school holidays) with an average duration of 1 hour (per day).
- The scheduling of volunteering is arranged through a joint group between volunteers and kennel technicians in the Whatsapp mobile application. Monthly vacancies will be made available on a calendar.
- Appointments must be made through the Whatsapp group (from 9 am to 5 pm) until the day before. Any cancellation must be made 24 hours in advanced and unforeseen delays must be notified via message to the group.
- The maximum number of participants per hour is two volunteers, and vacancies will be occupied in order of request.
- Volunteers who carry out, during the school year, a total of 40 hours of volunteer work, and prepare a written report of the activity carried out within the scope of the program, will be able to add the completion of the volunteer program to the supplement of the diploma. This report must be evaluated in advance by those responsible for the program, who will assign a classification.
