Objectives

To provide students with methodologies for research and analysis of scientific questions, through an experimental approach based on a previous elaborated project, analysis and discussion of the obtained results and presentation of the results in oral and written formats. In the case of a training period, we intend to integrate the students in an industry/business/other sector, research center or state institution, by developing the work plan in that entity so as to obtain knowledge, aptitudes and competences in the specific areas of that entity with interest to MTCA.

Learning outcomes and competences

Several topics in the scope of Environmental Toxicology and - Contamination, including:
- Toxicity of natural toxins;
- Effects of “classical” and emerging environmental contaminants (e.g. microplastics, pharmaceuticals, nanomaterials) in marine, freshwater and terrestrial organisms, populations and ecosystems;
- Bioremediation;
- Effects of mixtures in marine systems;
- Accumulation of xenobiotics by plants and animals and public health implications;
- Environmental risk assessment and management
- Biorremediation
- new pharmaceuticals and other applications of marine resources
- Bioinvasions, biodiversity and conservation
- Animal genetics
- Impacts of climate changes
- Other topics

Books and other scientific and technical pulications according the topic selected by each student.

Teaching methods and learning activities

1) Tutorial supervision;

2) Presentation and discussion of the work done during the first semester (at the beginning of the second semester),

3) Presentation and discussion of the MSc thesis or training report according  the UP rules
and national regulation.
