Objectives
At the end of the 1st year of the Doctorate in Biomedical Sciences at ICBAS, the doctoral student must prepare a Probationary Year Report, following the model in force for the Doctorate, and request Probationary Evidence, on a specific form and by the announced deadline. Transitioning to the 2nd Year of the Doctorate requires passing the Probationary Exam.
Learning outcomes and competences
The doctoral candidate must critically revisit the approved Thesis Project. You must reassess the relevance of the objectives and development plan of the Thesis, identifying deviations from what was initially proposed and measures to overcome possible problems or threats. Within the scope of the approved Theme, she will be able to rethink the Thesis Objectives and offer adjustments to what was initially planned. There may be changes to the guidance team. The work and results obtained must be presented and discussed. It must report any training and dissemination actions carried out.

According to the Approved Thesis Project. The student is encouraged, but not obliged, to attend training activities relevant to their Thesis Project and develop transversal, cognitive and communication skills and technical-scientific skills. If administratively possible, the doctoral program fully or partially financed attendance or participation costs.

Calculation formula of final grade
According to the jury's decision for the probationary year exam: "Approved" or "Not Approved". In the latter case, the doctoral candidate must re-enroll in the Probationary Year in the following academic year.
Observations
As for the Occupation Component, depending on the training plan defined by the orientation for the doctoral student, contact hours can be increased by adding T, TP, PL components, or other types, up to a maximum of 324 hours, i.e., up to 40% of up to 30 annual credits convertible into other activities (lectures, courses, etc.) other than those directly associated with the preparatory work for the Doctoral Thesis.
