Objectives

Undertake a project in the field of Molecular Bioengineering in which one should addressed the phases of design, development and implementation of a product or service.

Development of skills required for the design and development of a product/service of molecular bioengineering.

Learning outcomes and competences

Developent of the skills required for the development of a product/service in the field of molecular bioengineering.

Acquisition of soft skills in the area of task planning, project progress monitoring, implementation of corrective measures, management of changes to the initial plan, risk analysis, conflict management, and team communication.

Globally, students are expected to gain business experience while still in an academic setting.

Program

The project will be undertaken in the framework of subsequent tasks in an iterative process that includes:

i) Concept analysis and socio-economic impacts;

 ii) Requirements of the product or service to be developed;

 iii) Design of the product or service;

iv) Description of the different stages of project implementation;

 v) Cost analysis.

The project will be accompanied by a mentor.

Mandatory literature

Teaching methods and learning activities

Students will be divided into groups of 5 to 6 persons, who will work as a team for the preparation of the final document of the project. Each project stage should be discussed with the mentor/supervisor of the team and the curricular unit docent.

The curricular unit will work in an integrated way with the curricular units of Innovation in Biodesign (EBE0214) and Economics and Management (EBE0199), since the technology / product that will be the object of study in the three curricular units will be the same.

The teaching-learning process will be focused on the students team work (autonomous and tutored) and there will be a constant monitoring of the evolution and acquisition of knowledge and skills of its members, favoring the acquisition of specialized and specific skills that enable the students for competent professional practice when the these join the job market.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Assessment Components

Designation Weight (%)
Defesa pública de dissertação, de relatório de projeto ou estágio, ou de tese 30,00
Trabalho escrito 70,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

Designation Time (hours)
Apresentação/discussão de um trabalho científico 6,00
Elaboração de projeto 268,00
Frequência das aulas 10,00
Trabalho de campo 40,00
Total: 324,00

Eligibility for exams

Active participation in all phases of the project preparation.

Calculation formula of final grade

Each team will present 2 partial progress reports. At the end of the semester each team will deliver a final report and make a presentation of the project. Each of the progress reports will have a weight of 5% on the final note (these will be evaluated by the person in charge of the curricular unit). The final report and the oral presentation will be subject to evaluation by a jury consisting of the mentor of the project, an expert and the coordinator of the UC, and ratings with the weights of 70% and 30%, respectively, in the final grade.

Peer evaluation will be conducted that will also be reflected in the final report grade.
