Objectives

Acquisition of capacities of microscopical analysis and diagnosis of tissues and organs of vertebrates (fishes to mammals), as well as to predict / correlate the histophysiology from the structural and staining characteristics. To demonstrate the importance and application of the knowledge of the normal histology of tissues and organs, considering the potential series of changes. To stimulate the students to make a morphofunctional integration of acquired knowledge, and to use their creativity in planning of multidisciplinary projects, containing a histological part.

Program

Introduction to the study of Histology - A historical perspective
Epithelial tissue

Eligibility for exams

According the Law (see the new UP regulations).
Deliverance and presentation of the two cited Projects.

Calculation formula of final grade

Classification in theory test x 0,40 + Classification in practical test x 0,35 + Project I + Project II + Participation

The "Participation", according to the number of presences in classes, degree of self-commitment, and quality of participation in classes, can reach a maximum value of 1 point. Each "Project" can reach 2 points. The student passes if he/she manages to reach a minimum of 9.50 points, after the application of the formula.

Examinations or Special Assignments

Project I - Elaboration and presentation of a scientific project (in accordance with the formulary distributed by the teacher).
Project II - Elaboration of educational material for online publication.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

All students that are entitled by law to special exams will perform them upon official request, in a date announced by the responsible teacher, in accordance with the rules of the ICBAS.

Classification improvement

After approval to a discipline, the student can attempt to improve its first grade. Eventually, the student can attempt to improve the previous mark of just one of the exams, either the theory or the practical exam.

Observations

The grades of the several evaluation components can pass from one exam term and/or scholar year. Anyway, this possibility must be confirmed with the responsible teacher at the beginning of each scholar year. This confirmation is to be made because eventual changes in the programme and/or evaluation rules of the Histology and Embryology course can impair such transference of previous grades. In a certain examination term, the student may choose to make just one of the requests exams.
