Objectives
This is a classical course on Gross Human Anatomy that, firstly, offers an introductory view of the field and methods of naked-eye morphology of the human body. Integration of concepts on Gross Anatomy is done with notions of Physiology and Histology, and examples from Clinical Medicine are often used to illuminate the importance of the detailed knowledge of the anatomy of the human morphology in the medical profession. A complete view of human anatomy is only obtained by the student when the further subjects of this group of disciplines are addressed later on in the medical currivulum (i. e., Systematic Anatomy II, Neuroanatomy and Clinical Anatomy, all in the second year of the curriculum).
Program
This is the first subject of Gross Anatomy that the Medical Students deal with in this School. Three chapters are treated in this subject: osteology, syndesmology and myology. These chapters are treated with a systematic approach that involves the proposal of the same and specific grid of observation of anatomical elements for each of the three chapters that make up this subject. The anatomical description is to be made with regards to the direct observation of human cadavers, of anatomical preparations and of museum elements.
