Apresentação Pessoal

Raquel M. Gonçalves (RMG) is Assistant Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS) of the University of Porto since 2020.
RMG is graduated in Chemical Engineering, specialization Biotechnology (2001) and holds a PhD in Biotechnology (2006) from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon. The PhD about hematopoietic stem cell expansion was developed in collaboration with the University of Nevada, Reno, USA.
In 2007, RMG joined the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (INEB), where she did a postdoc in surface functionalization with ligands to control hematopoietic stem cell expansion. 

Since 2010, RMG was an invited professor in pos-graduated programs, namely at the Portuguese Catholic University, School of Biotechnology and University of Porto, in the Institute of Biomedical Science Abel Salazar and at Faculty of Medicine.

Currently, RMG is a researcher in the Microenvironments for New Therapies (MiNT) group, at i3S, Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde, where she coordinates the Stem Cell Bioengineering Team. 
Her scientific interests focus the bioengineering of stem cell-based therapies, namely with mesenchymal stem cells, in intervertebral disc degeneration.
