Personal Presentation

Salomé Gomes got a first degree in Pharmacy in 1993 and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences in 1999, both from Universidade do Porto. She visited the Rockefeller University in New York and Faculté Xavier-Bichat in Paris, as part of her training.

She is a Professor at ICBAS since 2001, where she teaches Microbiology to different courses.

Salomé Gomes leads the research group "Host Targets of Infection" at i3S, dedicated to the investigation of infections caused by non-tuberculous mycobacteria. Her research activity focuses on the interaction of mycobacteria with their main host-cells, the macrophages, searches for new anti-mycobacterial agents, using optimized experimental models with increased predictive power.
