Personal Presentation

Raquel M. Gonçalves (RMG) is a Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS) and a researcher at i3S, Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde, University of Porto.
RMG is graduated in Chemical Engineering, specialization Biotechnology and holds a PhD in Biotechnology from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon. The PhD about hematopoietic stem cell expansion was developed in collaboration with the University of Nevada, Reno, USA.

RMG integrated the Biomedical Engineering Institute and later the i3S, and served as an invited professor in pos-graduated programs, namely at the Portuguese Catholic University, School of Biotechnology and University of Porto, at ICBAS and at the Faculty of Medicine.

Currently, RMG coordinates the Stem Cell Bioengineering Team, with the goal of developing therapies and in vitro models based on Mesenchymal Stromal Cells and nanotechnology for the degeneration of the intervertebral disc.
