Qualitative Methods in Health

The aim is to provide students with the knowledge, methods and techniques they need to develop qualitative research projects in the medical field
autonomously.

Objectives

At the end of the course,
students are expected to be able to use the syllabus to:

1. Plan qualitative research in the field of medical sciences, using methods and techniques
of qualitative research at the level of:
a. defining the problem
b. Research design;
c. developing the research questions;
d. selecting the sample and sample size;
e. collecting data;
f. analysing and interpreting the data;


2. Developing qualitative research in the field of medical sciences;
3. Report the results in scientific articles on qualitative research;
4. Ensure the quality and validity of data and interpretations in qualitative research.

Recipients: Third-cycle (PhD) students at ICBAS.

End of training: 19 November 2025

Note:
From the moment applicant delivers the application, if applicable, fees are always due, even if for some reason the applicant is no longer interested in attend the course. If for any reason, upon registration, the applicant do not proceed with the fee payment, he is not free from payment in case of cancellation whether or not he has initiated the course.

Seriation criteria 

Be a third-cycle (PhD) student at ICBAS and have, through a specific form, a positive recommendation from the supervisory team and the doctoral program management regarding the need and relevance of attending the training in the context of thesis development.

Tie-breaking criteria will only be applied to non-admitted candidates in order to rank them for potential consideration as alternates. Among admitted candidates with equal scores, alphabetical order will be used for ranking. Non-admitted candidates will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Number of years enrolled in the Doctoral Program:

  • 1 to 2 years – 10 points

  • 2 to 4 years – 5 points

  • More than 4 years – 3 points

Average grade of previous academic degree:

  • Between 10 and 15 (out of 20) – 3 points

  • Between 15 and 18 – 5 points

  • Above 18 – 10 points

Tie-breaking criterion: Younger age
