Objectives

Knowledge of the "state of the art" and identification of the scientific question. Learn to plan experimental work, to predict results and evaluate their impact on the field.

Learning outcomes and competences

The thesis project is intended to develop skills related to a critical analysis of the state of the art and of the open questions within a particular scientific area. Subsequently, the student should be able to plan its research using innovative approaches that will answer some of the questions previously identified.

Perform a literature review that demonstrates knowledge of the "state of the art" within the thesis subject (namely in molecular and cell biology, infection and immunity or neurosciences) and propose a written research proposal describing goals, methodologies, tasks and respective timeline. Predict how the expected results will impact the progress of knowledge.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Tutorial. The evaluation will be done through the analysis of the written project proposal followed by its discussion.
