Objectives

To make master degree dissertation (or legally equivalent training period)

Learning outcomes and competences

Provide students with methodologies for research and analysis of scientific questions, through the scientific method, with experimental or other sorts of approaches, based on a previous elaborated project, analysis and discussion of the obtained results and presentation of the results in oral and written formats. In the case of a training period, via integrating the students in an industry, research center or state institution, by developing the work plan in that entity so as to obtain knowledge, aptitudes and competences in the specific areas of that entity, always having in mind contributions for innovation as previously established with the entity.

The contents vary depending on the topics of the works done by students within the vast area of Marine Sciences and particularly of its resources, both in contexts of fundamental research (from the molecule to the ecosystem) or applied science and technology (from production to valorization of products and services) in Biology and Ecology or in Aquaculture and Fisheries (depending on the specialization).

Scientific journal articles (mainly from international journals), books, manuals and other information sources selected according to the working theme chosen by the students.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Tutorial supervision (in academic and/or corporate environment), with writing and delivering of a final document appropriate to the type of work made, subjected to presentation and public discussion, according to the regulations at the University of Porto and the laws in force; the final grade is given by the jury, in the range 0-20, and it is added a qualitative classification.
