Techonologies for Oyster Production

The course in Oyster Production Technologies is a short course, 8 weeks, corresponding to a total of 81 hours of study (20 hours of asynchronous contact and 61 hours of autonomous work), corresponding to 3 ECTS credits. It is part of the "INSEAFOOD: Innovation and Valorisation of Seafood Products: meeting local challenges and opportunities", funded by Northern 2020. This course is designed to promote more advanced training in the field of oyster production for operators and producers, but also for those interested in this area.

Objectives

The training unit aims to be a training offer for all those who work or intend to work in the area of oyster farming in Portugal. In this way, the distance learning unit includes in its objectives:
1) Disseminate the importance and potential of oyster farming, based on principles of sustainability, quality and food safety;
2) Increase knowledge about methodologies and techniques used for oyster cultivation;
3) To strengthen the competitiveness of aquaculture by promoting better qualifications of its agents;
4) Implement the promotion of "best practices" in the production of bivalve;
5) Strengthen training in food hygiene and safety;
6) Stimulate investment in this area of production;
7) Contribute to local development and to the promotion of employment;
8) To contribute to the improvement of efficiency in the use of resources as well as the reduction of negative impacts on the environment.

Information

Conditions of access

In order to attend this training unit, the interested parties will have to present training relevant to the area of the course to which they apply and / or be involved in aquaculture of bivalves (production, marketing, service provision, regulation, research, etc.) or who wish to to develop activity in this sector.
In this way, the candidate must present a certificate of completion of degree, in those cases where this applies. The applicant can also prove that he is linked to a company that carries out the activity, or that has submitted a bivalve production project to the Directorate General of Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services (DGRM). If none of these conditions exist, but the candidate understands that he intends to start activity in this sector later, he may also express this intention through a letter of motivation.


Schedule: e-learning (with final exam in person).

Numerus clausus: 50

Note: The minimum number of registrations required for the operation of the course is 10.

Serial Criteria

Provided that the candidates meet the requirements imposed in the specific conditions of access and that the number of vacancies is not exceeded, they will be serials in order of receipt of the respective candidacy.

If the number of candidates exceeds the number of places, the selection and ranking of all candidates will be carried out in the following order of priority:

- need for training in relation to the activity you are performing at the time of application (weighting 80%);

- curricular assessment (20% weighting).

In any case, a selection interview may be conducted.

Note: In case of a tie, it will be considered the best classification in the selection phase.
