Objectives
In this Course students must be able to assess the growing relevance of this area, understand the main models and quality systems, and to values patient safety. Students must develop the concept of risk in healthcare, understand how quality issues shouldcondition management and political decisions, and also, should define real cases related to the theme.
Learning outcomes and competences
The main purpose of this optional course is to introduce medical students to quality concepts and patient safety. For this, students will get in touch with various definitions and with examples of quality breaks and its consequences.

Introduction to Quality. The importance of quality in management. Quality Models and Systems. Continuous Quality Improvement. Measuring Quality and introducing indicator systems. Quality Auditing. Variability in the provision of care and the consequences of non-quality in Medicine. What is patient safety? The importance of human factors to patient safety. Error in Medicine - causes, types and ways to avoid it. Learning from errors.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Ten seminars of 2,5 hours each, for a total of 25 hours per student. These sessions will be conducted by individuals with large experience in the subjects that are relevant for the course objectives.
