Objectives, activities and expected/achieved results
RISE aims to strengthen health research in the Portuguese Scientific and Technological Systems, from the preclinical and clinical stages to the community level, supporting and fostering the goals of the Portuguese policy for science and technology In harmony with this general aim, and relying on its strong human infrastructure of (clinical and translational) researchers and healthcare professionals who will act on a physical infrastructure merging the academia and the healthcare system, RISE commits to meet three
key sustainability goals,:
● Promote scientific and technical careers for doctorates, while ensuring talent attraction for Portugal.
● Support governmental entities in monitoring public policy addressed to scientific, health, social, environmental and economic challenges.
● Increase and diversify funding sources from European Union and from other international agencies.

Our vision and goals are aligned with the most relevant strategic plans for short- and long-term developments in health and healthcare technology, innovation and science in Portugal and worldwide, namely: the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; the Strategic Plan for Horizon Europe - the European Union Framework Programme for Research and Innovation 2021- 2027; the Health, Clinical and Translational Research Thematic Agenda for Research and Innovation of the Portuguese Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT); the Portuguese National Health Plan 2021- 2030 of the General Directorate of Health; and the social and economic strategic plans of the Portuguese Government for the decade 2020-2030 ("Visão Estratégica para o Plano de Recuperação Económica de Portugal 2020-2030" and "Recuperar Portugal 2021-2026 - Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência").

Focused on fostering clinical and translational research, accelerating the digital transformation and promoting effectiveness, efficiency, quality and sustainability of healthcare services, RISE will fill a current major gap in Portugal, allowing the perfect blending of scientific knowledge and innovation produced in R&D institutions and universities with the real, daily life of patients, healthcare professionals, healthcare institutions, health authorities, decisionmakers, policy-makers, entrepreneurs and companies in the healthcare sector. We aim to be RISE: Health R esearch Network - From Lab to Community 2 the major player and catalyst in changing the landscape of clinical, translational and community research in Portugal.
