Degree in Biology in 2000, from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, with specialization in Applied Animal Biology. Accepted by Gulbenkian's PhD Program in Biomedicine in the same year. FCT Scholarship between 2001 and 2004. Tutor at the Faculty of Nutrition Sciences of the University of Porto between 2003 and 2004. PhD in 2006 from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. Assistant Professor at the same institution since then. Tenure in 2011. Aggregation in Neurosciences in 2017. Teaching activity in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of studies in the Department of Biomedicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto. Member of the Scientific Committee of the Postgraduate Course in Pain Medicine since 2011 and the Master's degree in Neurobiology since 2016.

During her phD, Celia studied the role of signaling pathway activation in spinal cord neurons in chronic pathological conditions. Currently interested in neuroplastic changes in neuronal circuits that regulate visceral function and allow adaptation to chronic pathologies, particularly in the case of spinal cord injury. In this field, she has developed intense scientific activity, with guidance from students at the post-graduate level, coordination of scientific projects and publication at national and international level of various scientific articles and book chapters.
