The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) presents the Continuing Education Unit ‘Ethics and Standardisation of Procedures in Biobanks’, an innovative training programme that responds to the growing need to ensure harmonised, safe and ethically responsible practices in the storage and use of human biological samples for research.
With a b-learning system, the course is aimed at health professionals and researchers who wish to acquire or deepen their skills in the field of biobank management, with a focus on the standardisation of technical procedures, the legal framework and the fundamental ethical principles governing the collection, processing and use of samples.
Scientific and pedagogical coordination is provided by Prof. Inês Falcão Pires (Department of Surgery and Physiology, FMUP), with the collaboration of Prof. Rui Nunes, a national and international reference in the field of Bioethics, and Dr. Cláudia Mendes, a specialist in pathological anatomy with consolidated experience in the operational management of biobanks. This multidisciplinary team guarantees excellent training, combining scientific rigour with a practical and applied approach.

Target audience:
- Physicians and healthcare professionals who work with or plan to use samples stored in Biobanks, initiate sample collection within the scope of a study approved by an Ethics Committee, or perform functions related to Biobanks (such as health technicians, nurses, etc.).
- Medical students or graduates in Basic Health Sciences.
