Debriefing is a method of reflective practice that makes it possible to scrutinise assumptions and practices after an action. Debriefing is an essential part of clinical simulation training and it is in this phase (post-action) that reflection on professional practices takes place, promoting the correction and modification of future actions. This technique is not only applied in the context of simulation, but also in clinical practice, thereby improving the performance of health professionals and patient care. Debriefing is still little known and little applied in the national clinical context and in simulated training it is often undervalued.
This course is designed to help participants acquire basic and advanced debriefing skills, which are essential for moderating and facilitating clinical simulation scenarios. It will also explore how this practice can be applied in a clinical context.
The teaching/learning methodology consists of face-to-face theoretical-practical sessions, divided into brief theoretical presentations, group dynamics, interactive debriefing exercises, group dynamics and reflective discussions on the performance.
This training programme, which is unique in Portugal, reinforces FMUP's and the University of Porto's leading position in the field of health and clinical simulation. Since 2015, FMUP has promoted training in partnership with the European group of clinical simulation instructors (EUSIM). This course is accredited with 2 ECTS by the University of Porto and, in addition, participants receive a certificate of participation issued by EUSIM.
