The Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto/RISE-Health is an advisory, multidisciplinary, and independent body, established by a joint order from the Director of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto and the Director of RISE-Health on May 23, 2025, approved by Order No. 6664/2025, published in the 2nd series of the Diário da República (Official Gazette), No. 114, on June 16, 2025.
The Ethics Committee is responsible for ensuring compliance with ethical standards in the practice of medical sciences, life sciences, and pedagogical and educational teaching/learning sciences. It conducts analysis and reflection on issues related to medical and biomedical practice, bioethics, and biolaw involving ethical considerations, issuing opinions or other documents on these matters to protect and guarantee human dignity and integrity. It also safeguards the exercise of consent as the foundation of respect for individual autonomy, as well as ensuring respect for animals and their welfare due to their sentience, in accordance with current legislation.
Requests for opinions regarding already concluded and/or published studies will not be accepted.
Requests for opinions regarding studies that have already begun, where a substantial part of the research has already been conducted, will not be accepted.
Projects must be submitted in Portuguese. Only international or multicenter studies may be submitted in English.
