Objectives
This curricular unit should contribute to develop the sudents' ability to plan original research through the acquisition of skills in the different components of planning (literature review, selection and discussion of methods, strategies of data analysis, ethics).
Learning outcomes and competences
Students should acquire knowledge and skills to design a research project suitable to be the basis of a master dissertation. They should be able to discuss methodologial aspects and feasibility of the proposal in this context, as well as its potential contribution to the resolution of problems relevant in Health Education. The students should be able to prepare the submission of the project to an ethics committee.

Program
The contents promote the improvement of the students' capacity of solving problems in the context of health education, through learning the different stages of a research project, taking into account its feasibility in the context of a master's dissertation.
The preparation of the project should include the following phases: Clear identification of one problem in health education and the formulation of questions and/or hypotheses or intervention objectives related to its resolution; In-depth literature review; Justification of the research methods that address the formulated hypotheses or questions; Discussion of the adequacy of the methods and feasibility of the project; Discussion of ethical implications.
Mandatory literature
Bibliografia a definir de acordo com as especificidades de cada projeto; To be defined according to the specificities of each project
Teaching methods and learning activities
The teaching methodologies will included tutorial supervision, centered in the work developed by the student, under supervision of an advisor. The guidance methodology can be highly variable depending on the way students and advisors use to work, and also on the specificity of the problem to solve.
The evaluation comprises the assessment of the written project (corresponding to 75% of the final classification) and its presentation and discussion among peers (corresponding to 25% of the final classification).
None of the components of the evaluation is eliminatory by itself. The two components will be considered for the calculation of the final grade, regardless of the classification obtained in each of them, and cannot be subject of evaluation in a supplementary evaluation season.
For the components of continuous evaluation not attended by the student a classification of zero will be considered in the calculation of the final grade.
The students with the status of student worker will undergo the same components of evaluation.

Eligibility for exams
Obtaining frequency implies assistance to at least 75% of the scheduled tutorial supervision sessions.
Calculation formula of final grade
Final classification (0/20) = Written project (0/15) + presentation and discussion of the project among peers (0/5)
Classification improvement
Not possble in the same year. Requires the repetition of both components of the continuous evaluation.
