Dr Ana Costa Braga is a medical doctor and anatomical pathologist, specialised in foetal, perinatal and gynaecological pathology. She works at the Pathology Department of the University Hospital Centre of São João/ ULS São João and is an Invited Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), where she is pursuing a PhD in Medicine. She has advanced training in foetal and perinatal pathology (Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 / Société Française de F½topathologie; European Society of Pathology Advanced Training Centre, Sheffield Children’s Hospital, UK) and in gynaecological pathology (Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, USA). She further complemented this expertise with postgraduate studies in clinical and translational research, including systematic review methodology, applied statistics, biomedical data analysis and bioinformatics.
Since 2019, she has been responsible for the training of resident doctors in foetal and perinatal pathology. She is a member of the current Board of the College of Anatomical Pathology of the Portuguese Medical Association and serves on the Executive Committee of the Paediatric Pathology Society (PPS).
Her research focuses on placental pathology, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and maternal–foetal infection, with a particular interest in the application of proteomics, molecular analysis and integration of multimodal datasets. She is the author of over 40 scientific publications and regularly participates in national and international conferences.
