Apresentação Pessoal

José Laerte Boechat has been an Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) since 2022, teaching Health Information and Decision (Department of Community Medicine) and Basic and Clinical Immunology (Department of Pathology). Since 2023, he has been involved in organizing and teaching the Continuing Education Course "Immunotherapy and Immunomodulation" at FMUP.

He earned his medical degree in 1993 from the Fluminense Federal University (Niterói, Brazil). He obtained his Ph.D. in Medicine (Clinical Immunology) in 2009 from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). From 2011 to 2018, he served as an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Fluminense Federal University, in the Clinical Immunology Service, a position from which he is currently on leave.

In 1997, he completed his specialization in Allergy and Immunology at the Clementino Fraga Filho University Hospital (Allergy and Immunology Service), Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and has since been affiliated with the Brazilian Association of Allergy and Immunopathology (ASBAI). He has also been a full member of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) since 2005; the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) since 2009 (International Fellow (FAAAAI) since 2013); and the Portuguese Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (SPAIC) since 2017.

Currently, he is the Co-coordinator of the Mastocytosis Committee of the Latin American Society of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (SLAAI), a member of the Scientific Department of Senescence (ASBAI), a member of the Adverse Reactions to Foods Committee (AAAAI), and a member of the Cutaneous Allergy Interest Group (SPAIC). Since 2020, he has been an Integrated Researcher at CINTESIS, currently connected to RISE-HEALTH, specifically to Thematic Line 3 - Hormones, Infection, Inflammation, and Metabolism. His main research areas are food allergies in adults/elderly, environmental pollution and respiratory diseases, and the use of biologics in allergic diseases.
