Objetivos
a. The study of the dramatic achievement of William Shakespeare through a short selection of plays made according to a general thematic reference;
b. The apprehension by students of the aesthetic dimension and the creative flexibility of the English language at a crucial stage of its historical and literary fixation;
c. The familiarity with the Elizabethan dramatist's work and the development of critical approaches, stimulating the reading of Shskespeare's plays in their literary and spectacular expression.
Programa
The Serpent under It: Faces of Evil in the Tragedy of Shakespeare and the Playwrights of his time.
The figure of the villain in Richard III and in Othello gives life to the treendous persuasive force of words and performance: Richard of Gloucester and Iago, cunning directors and actors with the veil of virtue covering the many faces of evil, orchestrate events, attitudes and feelings, and activate the operations of the serpent, a subtle presence behind the elusive masks of characters or of the opaque features of actions and intentions, also pervading the plot of The Duchess of Malfi, by John Webster, an outstanding example of the rich production of Shakespeare's contemporary dramatists.
