Objectives
The subject’s general aim is to provide students with the necessary skills to read and interpret medieval written historical sources, especially those related with the History of Portugal. Another aim is to provide students with elements that can allow them, after reading a document, to analyse its external and internal character and be able to answer questions such as, "who wrote it?", "when"?, "where"?, "for what purpose"?, etc., and classify the type of document (regarding its nature, provenance, etc.)

B) Diplomatics
1. Concept and History of Diplomatics
2. The documents: genesis, types, tradition and conservation. Formulas and formularies.
3. Pontifical documentation
C) Sigillography (some notions).
