Objectives

This subject focuses mainly on the practical acquisition of the Dutch language. Special emphasis is placed on communication skills. The subject also offers an historical and current overview of Dutch and Flemish cultures.

Program

LANGUAGE
Firstly, this subject aims at the practical acquisition of the language. Special emphasis is placed on communication skills, both oral and written.
The study of grammar is limited to the requirements set up by Nederlandse Taalunie for the elementary level (Elementaire Kennis). During the second semester, students will learn the diminutive, negation, prepositions, how to form the imperative, the future, the gerundive and the conditional.

CULTURE
Introduction to the history of the Dutch language within Europe (the Low Countries and Flanders) and outside Europe (Surinam, Antilles and South Africa). Cultural and current overview of the Low Countries and Flanders.
