Objectives
To reflect on the importance of population in development policies, in territorial, social, economic and environmental terms.
To analyse, from a critical point of view, the demographic theories in a context of socio-economic changes.
To acquaint students with different sources and methods in demographic data collection.
To acquaint students with the essential methods and techniques for microdemographic analysis.
To become aware of the importance of an applied approach.

THEORETICAL CLASSES
1- Development theories: framing the population factor.
2- Population policies: from the international action programmes to the responses of national policies:
2.1- International conferences on population;
2.2- The dimensions of population policies: scales and levels of intervention;
2.3- Agents in demographic policies:
2.4 - Demographic policies in developed and developing countries: beginnings, objectives and methods.
3- Aspects of EU’s demographic policy.
3.1- Reproductive health;
3.2- Gender relationships;
3.3- Population ageing.
PRACTICAL CLASSES
1 - Information Systems in the geographical analysis of Population: data collections, analysis and interpretation.
1.1- Census and Demographic Statistics in the national, regional and local analysis of population:
1.2- Surveys in demography: conception and analysis;
1.3- Opinion polls;
1.4- Demographic data analysis methodologies.
2 - Prospective analyses.
3- Case studies: different methodologies.
