Prehistoric Art
Instance: 2004/2005 - 1S
Cycles of Study/Courses
Objectives
Concept of prehistoric "art", based on Western cultural parameters and in contrast with the graphic or sculptural "interpretations" of allegedly primitive societies, i.e., an approach to the concept of "prehistoric art" from an anthropological point of view.
Discuss art as a cultural information system of the societies that produced it: the Upper Palaeolithic/Mesolithic and the Neolithic/Bronze Age, particularly in Europe.
Discuss lasting architectonic productions as well as proto-sculpture and sculpture within the mentioned parameters (cultural data that help to define identities and social and political cohesion).
Discuss wider (landscape) or restricted (caves, megalithic monuments) contextual areas in terms of being a "support" for communitarian objectives and chosen techniques.
Understand that in all art there is a "mytography" which is phenomenologically "activated" by the different societies that have created, used, transformed and/or improved it.
Study the major registration methods according to the theoretical objectives mentioned.
Discuss preservation experiences.
