Objectives
The History of Portuguese Geography and its contextual interpretation in the History of Geography and in the History of Science and Technique.
The major periods of the History of Portuguese Geography.
The production processes, the dissemination and use of geographic models of work in Portugal.
The major Portuguese geographers and institutions and the geographic production.
Learning outcomes and competences
Aprehend andhistoriographically situate the key stages of History of Geography.
Study of maps, comparing them with the information present in monographic texts, practicing the principle of 'validation' (or 'falsification') of mutual geographical information.
Recognize in the present time the marks the discipline's evolution. Support a 'double paradigmatic' conception of the discipline: 'disciplinary matrix' that refers to the ideological context of the time in whicha a certain geographical knowledge it is produced 'Exemplary' by identifying the specific rules for the research. Their inheritances in the present-day discipline.
