Objectives

- Understand the artistic and heritage value of the themes under study;
- Promote knowledge about the evolution of techniques and forms in the city of Porto and decorative programas associated with the crafts under study, in their diachrony;
- Contribute to the understanding of applied arts as agents of circulation of ideas, lines of thought, shapes, materials and techniques.
- Relate the characteristics of the applied arts to the circumstances of  learning, ordering and application contexts;
- Interpret the image in its anthropological context and as a multicultural expression;
- Identify supports, materials and techniques in the production and uses of the Image.

Learning outcomes and competences

a) Contribute to acquisition of knowledge on the contentes in study, using documentary and visual sources, their analysis and interpretation.
b) Provide direct contact with artistic techniques in urban, architectural and museological spaces;
c) Provide research tools on the topics under analysis trough thematic texts, observation and analysis of artistic works.
d) Develop image analysis, interpretation skills and artistic practices in their contexts of production, devotion and territory at the local level.

  i. Decorative bronzes.
  ii. Bell Casting, iconographies and inscriptions.
  iii. Case studies: The bells of Porto's Cthedral, The Bells of the St. Lourenço Church.
d. Iron
  i. Wrought iron and cast iron.
  ii. Urban furniture and statuary.
  iii. Models and inspiration sources .
  iv. Case studies: Rua de Vilar – door lnokers, railing panels and railings; the gardens of the Crystal Palace - Furniture and statuary.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The classes (TP)  will be taught using multimedia resources, namely the projection of images and videographic records, selected in order to illustrate the techniques, their evolution, shapes, typologies and iconography present in the pieces under analysis.
The planning includes several field classes, at museums and heritage sites that provide opportunities for direct contact with the topics under study.  Walking routes the city of Porto are also planned with the same purpose.
Trainee participation will be enhanced through the analysis and debate of  contents and case studies.
