Objectives
Through regular meetings with the scientific advisor(s), the doctoral student begins to build his project of doctoral thesis: he sets the theme, chronology and space, the starting questionnaire, makes a first survey of sources and bibliography and builds the first interim plan. He identifies the expected difficulties (eg, accessibility and understanding of the sources, accessibility and understanding of the bibliography) and draws up a provisional schedule.
Learning outcomes and competences
The doctoral student, in conjunction with his supervisor(s) and the collaboration of his colleagues, is able to choose a research topic, coherently define chronological and spatial frameworks, or build a few basic questions and subdivide them in an initial questionnaire, to develop a first list of sources to analise, the general and specific books and articles to read, to anticipate and assess the difficulties that await him in order to best overcome them. He is also able to create a provisional timetable, in order to monitor the effectiveness of his work.
Working method
Presencial
Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)
The generic ones defined in the conditions of access to the Course; eventual specific prerequisites, according to the theme, space, chronology, sources and bibliography.
Program
Being a seminar of orientation for research, there is not a program of studies. The topics of discussion and reflection and their sequence are defined by the supervisor, in accordance with the doctoral student and responding to the specific needs of his work.
