Objectives

The main objective of this curricular unit is to deepen and develop knowledge in museology, through an Internship, understood as an essential element for the integration of students in the work environment in museums.

Learning outcomes and competences

It is intended that, at the end of this curricular unit, students will be able, autonomously, to:

- Critically and creatively formulate research questions in the field of museology;

- Develop and implement a coherent research / action programme in the field of museology;

- Elaborate a critical review of the literature and evaluation of the state of the art;

- Analyze, evaluate and use appropriate methods for the specific research questions;

- Reflect critically on the research processes, presenting the results for public discussion.

Program

Based on a general programme-contract of FLUP, each student's work experience period will have specific objectives, tasks and goals that will be specified in each individual protocol, that will be established between FLUP and the host institution. The priorities of this programme are the involvement in the work world, the acquisition of a varied experience in the specific contents of the profession and a research based on a defined theme that brings together the interests of the institution and the student, the availability of supervision and the interest for education and training.

References will be provided according to the research topics being developed by students.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Students will be supported simultaneously by the supervisors designated by FLUP and by the ones indicated at the host institution. The tutorial orientation of the first ones will contribute, mainly, to the consolidation of their methodological and technical training and to the deep knowledge of the contents to be explored and researched, as well as the reflection on the tasks developed. From the seconds, it is expected not only the support in conducting the research, facilitating access to the information of proximity and specialized, as well as the reception in the professional practice and teams of the institution, which guarantees this important component for the future employability that is the in-service training.
