Objectives
This curricular unit has as general objective, on the one hand, to provide a context for a reflexive and critical discussion of the issues that relate to the nature of the contexts of communication and mediation in museological and heritage context, of its interrelations and inherent problems, particularly those related to heritage education; and, on the other hand, to develop the student's abilities and competences appropriate to the design, planning and implementation of heritage education activities.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of this course students are expected to have acquired the knowledge, skills and competences that best enable them to understand the theoretical and practical contexts of communication, interpretation and mediation in the heritage context, their interrelations and inherent problematics. Thus, at the end of this CU students will be able to:
- express a critical understanding of principles, theories and methods of heritage interpretation and mediation;
- identify differentiated strategies of mediation and interpretation in the heritage context;
- express a critical understanding of "the heritage experience", and relate it to different motivational visitor profiles and mediation and interpretation approaches for visitors;
- designing, planning and evaluating mediation and interpretation products in the heritage context;
- apply basic mediation and interpretation techniques.

Teaching methods and learning activities
The UC presents a critical approach to communication, education and mediation studies in museums and heritage contexts. The sessions are theoretical-practical and of different nature using the presentation and discussion of questions, audiovisual material, different critical readings of texts, the exploration of object. Other sessions, of a more practical and laboratory nature, explore and experience the museological and heritage resources using, whenever possible, the field and its interlocutors. This contact zone created with professionals is also understood as an essential opportunity to dialogically test ideas.
