Objectives

The syllabus aims:

- Understanding the broad lines of contemporary political history

- Define and discuss the fundamental concepts and issues of contemporaneity, taking into account their complexity and correlation. 

- Understand the need for an interdisciplinary analysis of the main world regions.    

- To problematize the ongoing evolutionary trends in the world political order

 

Learning outcomes and competences

Theoretical lectures aim to provide that students are able to:
-increase historical and geographical knowledge on world history
- develop a conceptual and framework of world history and geopolitics.

1 - Imperialism - theories and main key words

2-  Historical insight of the 20th century

3 - World War I and the New International Order

4 - The crisis of liberal democracies and the advent of fascism in Europe

5 - World War II and the end of European hegemony

6 - Political reorganization: the end of colonial empires and the Cold War.

7 - Western democracies, the construction of the Welfare State, the "welfare society" and the social revolutions of the 1960s.

8 - The end of the cold war

9 - Crises and challenges in the 21st century.
