Contextualize, in space and time, the evolution of public administration, its organization and functionality.
Identify the administrative entities that produce information, specifically, the successive institutions created within the Portuguese Public Administration, in the period between the formation of the Kingdom and the democratic organization.
Identify the logic of governance of the Portuguese territory.
Understand and identify the reflexes of the administration (central, peripheral and local) in the production of information and in the different record supports that are in the custody of local and national archives.
Ability to an historically contextualization of the institutions created over time, connecting time, space and the cyclical and structural change.
Understand the semantic evolution of the terms, in space and time.
Develop organizational capacities of consulted bibliographic information.
The aim is also that students may be able to organize their own research, in bibliographic and documental supports.
It seeks that the information obtained can be reused in works to be developed in other disciplines and in their professional life.
PART I - The foundation of the Portuguese Kingdom to the Liberalism Period
1. Territory and Territories - an articulation of power - the dispersion of territories - secular and religious landlords - constraints associated with the Christian reconquest process
2. The organization of the central power in the medieval period:
2.1. supports: a compilation of legislation, military organization and tax organization;
2.2. the medieval Cortes: advising the monarch, represent the community?
3. The organization of the central government - the state's institutionalization in the modern period:
3. 1. a complex of organic and functional coherence - "polissinodal regime ';
3. 2. modern Cortes - the loss of skills.
4. The organization of local territorial magistrates in medieval and modern period:
4.1 Provedorias and Comarcas
4.2 Local Councils: manorial and royal municipalities, secular and religious.
Part II- From the Liberalism to the Decentralized Administration
1. Constituent Cortes and the new governmental order - the fragmented power
2. Electoral systems and the impact on the central and local governance.
3. From the Mesas to the Ministries (from the 19th century to the Republic).
4. "Start below": the reorganization of the local administration and the extension of powers: from the districts to the the parish administration.
Supplementary means of projection image and text in order to developpe debates around various issues addressed.
Some classes will be exclusively of applied research.
The frequency is obtained through mandatory attendance at 75% of the teaching units.
