Objectives

The approach to different aspects of the programme aims to a) raise a critical analysis of the historical issues of Portugal in the early modern period, in the social, economic and cultural aspects; b) provide students with updated information and discuss theoretical assumptions and sources used by the authors; c) analyse concepts and operative instruments related to the economic and social history of the early modern period. The aim of tutorials will be to a) develop, through supervised discussions, the ability to analyze critique and explain scientific criticism; b) develop cognitive skills and provide conceptual and operating tools essential to a dynamic and critical learning.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should be able to understand concepts inherents to the matters discussed. They should have an idea about archive and other sources used by the authors in their studies. They should be able to evalute bibliography.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical and practical lessons in TP (includes working with sources). In tutorials, discussion of issues raised in the students’ self-study activity; fostering discussions on keywords used in the subject; discussion of bibliographic issues.

Eligibility for exams

Attendance records will be kept. Students who are exempted from attending classes due to their special status must inform the lecturer early in the semester and contact the lecturer on a regular basis. Those who are not able to attend classes have to contact the lecturer in the first week and maintain the contact.
