Objectives

">German B2.2 is the continuation of German B2.1.
">In this course, students of German should achieve a level of knowledge corresponding to level B2.2 (independent user, level 2) of the Common European Framework of Reference for the following skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing.
">In addition to consolidating lexical knowledge, students should:
">- read and understand the content of long texts, interviews and complex sequences of argumentation, within the thematic areas studied and current themes, including texts with abstract or technical themes;
">- develop lexical skills to comment on written texts (adapted and / or authentic, such as online articles, comments and reports) on the topics covered;
">- write argumentative texts;
">- develop oral presentation techniques;
">- present and defend, orally, different points of view about current and controversial topics, expressing themselves with fluency, clarity and spontaneity in the interaction with the teacher and with the classmates.

At the end of the semester, students will have developed essential skills for the systematic (receptive and productive) use of the German language, applying the lexical and idiomatic structures (Redemittel) appropriate to the B2.2 level. They should also master the terminology and grammatical structures appropriate to this level and acquire a broader knowledge of sociocultural realities than German speaking countries.

Learning outcomes and competences

">As a sequence of B2.1 level, the teaching methods adopted in B2.2 German classes aim to consolidate and develop the application of language knowledge, in terms of reception and production, in several situations, with emphasis on:
">- understanding and producing complex texts on the themes foreseen in the program;
">- in the oral expression, which will be developed through presentations and debates in class.

">The teaching methodology will follow a communicative approach, which will allow students to develop oral skills, stimulating them to use the language independently, always in a constructive and creative process.
">In order to consolidate the knowledge acquired in UC B2.2, the adopted methodology aims at constant student contact with different teaching materials, authentic texts and vocabulary exercises applied to the use of the language in authentic situations.
The evaluation is based on these parameters through practical exercises, written tests, oral tests, listening comprehension tests and active participation in class. The tests proposed in the scope of the distributed evaluation will aim to allow the teacher and the student to check progress in reviewing and deepening existing knowledge and acquiring new content.

Working method

Presencial

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

This course assumes familiarity with the contents studied at the level B2.1.

Program

The German B2.2 course offers the students a continuation, deepening and development of the contents studied in the first semester, with a more intensive work and a more autonomous use of the language.

You will study topics from the Kompass DaF B2.2 coursebook:

a) Berufsausbildung (L.6)
b) Motivation (L.9)
c) Kommunikation (L.10)

In the study of lesson 6, the students will discuss vocational training.

In the second topic area Motivation, students will develop lexical and grammatical skills to defend their ideas in a discussion. Especially topics related to conflicts at work will be dealt with.

The topic Kommunikation will address, in terms of lexical and pragmatic-cultural knowledge, the positive and negative aspects of an academic exchange or an academic stay in another country and intercultural communication. In this lesson, students will study the techniques of writing an argumentative text (Erörterung).

In grammar, students will consolidate the contents studied in the first semester. Moreover, they will study the following contents: Relativsätze, Adjektivdeklination, Konjunktiv II (Gegenwart und Vergangenheit/höfliche Bitten und Ratschläge, irreale Bedingungssätze, irreale Wünsche, Vergleichssätze), konzessive Haupt- und Nebensätze, zweiteilige Konnektoren, Partizip I und II als Attribute.

As part of the programme and the assessment you will also read a book in German which will be chosen at the beginning of the semester.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Through different didactic strategies, a communicative approach will be adopted, integrating different language skills, with the aim of promoting authentic communication on relevant topics in German. The language learning process will be creative and constructive, including linguistic accuracy.

Continuous assessment of students aims to stimulate progressive work, including regular feedback from the teacher on the competencies developed by students. In this evaluation mode, great importance will be given to the active and continuous participation of the students in class, including attendance, autonomous study, commitment in the accomplishment of the tasks and timely delivery of the proposed works.
Through written and oral tests, the linguistic-pragmatic and sociolinguistic competences acquired both in oral comprehension and interaction, as well as in written interpretation and textual production (oral component: 50%, written component: 50%). In class, students should interact with their colleagues and the teacher exclusively in German.

The students also carry out a reading project of a novel written by an author from a German speaking country.
