In this course, the students of German should achieve a level of knowledge corresponding to level B2.1 (independent user, level 1) of the Common European Framework of Reference in the competences listening, reading, speaking and writing. In addition to consolidating the lexical knowledge previously studied, students should be able to: - read and understand oral and written texts, interviews and complex sequences of argumentation, within the thematic areas studied and current themes, including texts with abstract or technical topics; - develop lexical skills to understand and summarize written texts (adapted and / or authentic, such as online articles, comments and reports) on the topics covered; - develop oral presentation techniques on subjects studied; - present and defend, orally, different points of view on current and controversial topics and express themselves in German with fluency, clarity and spontaneity in the interaction with the teacher and with the classmates. - draw up and explain, in a clear and detailed manner, a point of view; - develop and apply summary techniques based on authentic texts.
At the end of the semester, students will have developed core competences for the systematic (responsive and productive) use of the German language, applying the lexicon and language structures (Redemittel) specific to the contents addressed. They should also master the appropriate terminology and grammatical structures at B2.1 level and acquire a broader knowledge of sociocultural realities than German speaking countries.
This curricular unit assumes the contents studied in UC's B1.1 and B1.2.
In German Language B2.1, the focus will be on current topics in German and European politics, with emphasis on the three subject areas of the Kompass B2.1 coursebook:
(a) Sprachenlernen (L.1)
b) Digitale Welten (L.4)
c) Klimawandel (L.5)
Students will talk about methods of learning languages and discuss the positive and negative aspects of learning in groups or individually.
In the second topic area (Digitale Welten), students will develop competences regarding the use of digital media to comment on and discuss the advantages, dangers and possibilities of the new digital age. Inhaltsangabe techniques will be studied in the written production.
The topic of climate change will address the emerging question of how to face the challenges of the future. In addition, the world and professional life will be addressed. Students will develop the skills needed to draft application letters and CVs. In oral expression, they will acquire the necessary oral skills to participate in a German language admission interview. At the end of the thematic unit they will have to formalise all the steps for an application from authentic job offers (internet).
In grammar, the students will consolidate the following contents: Wortstellung im Haupt- und Nebensatz (TE-KA-MO-LO), Ergänzungen und Angaben, Adjektivdeklinationen, Zeitformen des Indikativs, Konjunktiv II, Relativsätze und Verben mit Präpositionalergänzungen.
Furthermore, emphasis will be given to the study of the following topics: kausale, finale, modale und temporale (Neben)Sätze und Angaben, Pronominaladverbien, Vorgangs- und Zustandspassiv, Passiv mit Modalverben und Passiversatzformen, Infinitivkonstruktionen.Designation | Weight (%) |

Students must attend 75% of all classes in order to qualify for formal assessment.
Working students and other students legally exempt from regular class attendance should contact the teacher at the beginning of the semester to combine a form of alternative assessment, otherwise they risk to be excluded from any evaluation.
The final grade is composed of the average of the written and oral grades, the weight of the written evaluation (written tests and textual production) being 50% and the weight of the oral evaluation (mean of all oral components) 50%.
For approval, the student should:
- obtain a minimum of 10 values in each component (at least 9,5 values in the written component and at least 9,5 values in the oral component)
- obtain a final average of at least 10 values (at least 9,5 values on a scale of 0-20).
