Objectives

 

This course unit intends to outline a political, economic, social and cultural panorama of Germany from the mid-19th century to the second half of the 20th century.


By the end of the semester the students who passed the evaluation components will know which events and personalities were most relevant in the political, economic, social and cultural history of Germany in the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th centuries. Such wide and multisided knowledge will enable the students to a critical perspective and a contextualizing approach to the human facts.



 

Learning outcomes and competences

 

 Through a systematic study of the phenomena and of the political, economic and social contexts that characterize the history of Germany in the in the second half of the XIX century and the first half of the XX century, the students will get a detailed, rigorous and multifaceted knowledge of the contemporary Germany.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Emphasis on theory-practical components to stimulate the active participation of students. Use of audio-visual media, namely computer (especially power-point) and data-show, but also Moodle.
