Objectives

1) to identify and characterise different types of medieval documents 2) to establish a link between the form of the deeds, their legal aims and the institution that produced them 3) to identify the factors that helped shape the institutions producing the documents 4) to acquire the skills needed to apply a specific research method in the analysis of medieval documents and to present the results obtained

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should be able to analyze documents from the point of view of their legal typology. They should also know the different internal and external characteristics of the acts in order to better understand the historical sources.

Final assessment = attendance in sessions (30%) + written essay  (60%). This written essay corresponds to 4 equal parts reports concerning diferent perspectives of diplomatic analysis.
